Rapid releases are sweet. Close on the heels of our January 2018 release, today we are excited to bring the February 2018 release just in time for Valentine’s Day. I confess flowers are not my thing, but sweets ... ah ... sweets! (Sorry Dr. Wonka!) This latest release is bound to bring a sweet smile to the modern data analyst trying to taste the sweetness of insights hidden in their (ahem) Hive, Elasticsearch or Spark data sources.
We focused this release on continuing to empower the modern data analyst to perform analytics without moving data while allowing the flexibility to not have to prepare all the data in advance of the analysis required.
Key highlights of the release:
- Creation and smart push-down processing of Derived fields in Elasticsearch is brand new in this release. This is a major milestone for providing SQL-like capability in the non-SQL world of Elasticsearch. No longer will analysts need to wait for new indexes to be created or for their data engineers to get freed up, just to see a new facet of their existing data documents. Zoomdata now offers the same row-level calculations on search based semi-structured data as is available on structured data accessed via Impala or stored in a PostgreSQL relational database.
- Similarly, analysts can enjoy the advantages of row-level calculations and derived fields for Hive on Tez and SparkSQL sources, extending the range of modern data analysis that can be made possible using row-level operations.
- Grouping on numeric data fields without the need to create derived fields is now possible. A dashboard showing the sum of sales grouped by age on one chart, and average age grouped by an item’s price point on another, becomes so much easier to create without extra steps getting in the way. Another analytic win for a modern BI analyst who wishes to use SQL-like capability across their entire data stack.
As always, refer to the release notes for more details on these and other latest enhancements.
