Zoomdata Version

Fixing Blank Visualizations in the Gallery (for RPM Installations)

Symptom

If you successfully installed the RPM version of Zoomdata and only see blank visualizations on the dashboard, there may be a 'HOSTNAME' mismatch in two specific Zoomdata files - /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/hosts .

Possible Cause

In the file /etc/sysconfig/network , the following command line is needed:

HOSTNAME= ZoomdataServerName
The Hostname can be any alphanumeric name. ZoomdataServerName is used as an example.

In the file /etc/hosts , the following command line should be available:

Your_server_IP ZoomdataServerName
... where the IP address for your Zoomdata instance and the name of the 'Hostname' is identified.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you will need to open the two files and verify that the 'HOSTNAME' reference in both files match. Potential scenarios causing the blank visualizations:

  • If the 'HOSTNAME' reference does not exist in the /etc/sysconfig/network file, then it must be added. The name must match what is provided in the /etc/hosts file.
  • If the 'HOSTNAME' reference exists in both files, then one of the references must be revised to match the other.

To correct this error, take the following steps:

Step 1 : Log out of Zoomdata, if you are still in the program and close the browser.

Step 2 : From your terminal, open a command line session.

Step 3 : Change to the Zoomdata directory.

Access the article Managing Configurations in Zoomdata if you need guidance.

Step 4 : Open the file /etc/sysconfig/network

Step 5 : Search for the term 'HOSTNAME'

Step 6 : If this term is not in the file, add the following line:

HOSTNAME=[ZoomdataServerName]

Step 7 : Open the file /etc/hosts

Step 8 : Verify whether the command line containing the Hostname and the Server IP Address exists:

[your_server_IP] [ZoomdataServerName]

In essence, the name provided for the 'HOSTNAME' in the /etc/sysconfig/network must match the name that is listed in the /etc/hosts file.

Step 9 : Save any changes you made to the two files.

Step 10 : Open a new browser session (i.e., Chrome) and log back into Zoomdata and verify that the visualizations are displaying in the Gallery.
