Managing Security Services

As a supervisor, you can enable or disable Zoomdata's authentication services as required. The available services are listed under the Security menu option, Security Services tab as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1

Zoomdata provides the following security services:

You can manage the setup for SAML SSO and LDAP directly from the Zoomdata Client, using the corresponding tabs SAML Settings and LDAP Settings (as shown in Figure 1). However, note that these tabs are accessible only when the corresponding service is enabled on the Security Services tab.

Settings for (1) x.509 authentication, (2) Kerberos SSO and (3) OAuth are handled using the zoomdata.properties file.

Enabling or disabling any of these security services requires a restart of the Zoomdata service. Basically, any time you toggle a security feature, the Zoomdata service needs to be restarted before the change takes effect. The following toggle status are available for each of the services:

  • Started
  • Stopped
  • Will start/stop on next restart

Refer to the instructions below to enable or disable a security service and restarting Zoomdata.

Enabling/disabling a Security Service

Perform the following steps:

  1. Log in as a Supervisor and select Security from the main menu.

  1. Save your settings and restart Zoomdata for the changes to take effect.

How to Restart Zoomdata

  1. Close the Zoomdata Client (browser window).
  2. Access the Linux prompt and log into your Zoomdata Server (via Secure Shell or SSH).
  3. Restart the Zoomdata service.
For the appropriate Linux command line (for CentOS v6, v7 or Ubuntu v14, v16), refer to the article Restarting Zoomdata Services .

Wait a few minutes for the Zoomdata service to fully restart, then open a new browser window and log back in as the supervisor. Verify that your changes took effect.

If you receive an error message stating that the connection to Zoomdata could not be made, you may need to give it a little more time for the service to fully restart. If the problem persists, contact Zoomdata Technical Support .

Service Status

Keep in mind:

  • If you chose to enable a service, after the settings have been saved, the status of a service changes to "Will start on next restart".
After restarting Zoomdata, the service status changes to "Started."
  • If you chose to disable a service, after the settings have been saved, the status of a service changes to "Will stop on next restart". The corresponding tab, that allows you to configure the settings for the service, will still be available and the service will keep running.
After restarting Zoomdata, the service status changes to "Stopped". For SAML SSO and LDAP, this means that access to those particular tabs will be disabled.

Notes on Using the Security Services

When working with security services, keep in mind that you cannot use them all at the same time. So if you toggle a particular security service on, others will become disabled. Refer to Table 1 for details.
If you want to use a security service that is disabled at the moment, you have to toggle the running services off and after this, start the required ones.
