Configuring Miscellaneous Charts

Besides the charts in the other groups, you also have access to the following chart styles: Box Plot, Donut, Heat Map, KPI, Pie, Tree Map, and Word Cloud. These chart styles are supported by most data source. You can configure the defaults for all bar chart styles at the level of your data sources. To configure your charts, see the following:

To configure Box Pot chart settings

This chart type is based on one metric and one attribute.

You can only use this chart type on the following data sources: Elastic Search, Solr v.5.2 and higher, Oracle, Redshift, and SQL Server.

  1. Navigate to the data source of your choice.
  2. Select the Charts tab.
  3. Select the Box Plot chart style.
  4. Configure the settings as follows:
    Group by - select the attribute. For example, you want to view the data on your chart grouped by the Income Bracket attribute.
    Group by Limit - specify the number of attribute items that you want to be displayed on the chart. For example, you have up to 25 ranges of customer income (items), but want to view only 5 of them.
    Group by Color Palette - select the palette that you want to use.
    Display Legend - select this checkbox if you want the legend to be displayed in the chart.
    Group by Sort - select a metric or the attribute by which the attribute items, you have selected to group by, will be sorted. Select the sorting order.
    For example, you want to sort the Income Bracket attribute items ascending by Sales volume .
    Metric - select the metric.
  5. Specify a chart name and description, if desired.
  6. Select Save to make your changes.

To configure Donut chart settings

This chart type is based on one metric and one attribute and is supported by all data sources.

  1. Navigate to the data source of your choice.
  2. Select the Charts tab.
  3. Select the Donut chart style.
  4. Configure the settings as follows:

    1. Group by - select the attribute. For example, you want to view the data on your chart grouped by the Income Bracket attribute.
      Group by limit - specify the number of attribute items that you want to be displayed on the chart. For example, you have up to 25 ranges of customer income (items), but want to view only 5 of them.
      Group by Color Palette - select the palette that you want to use.
      Display Legend - select this checkbox if you want the legend to be displayed in the chart.
      Group by Sort - select a metric or the attribute by which the attribute items, you have selected to group by, will be sorted. Select the sorting order.
      For example, you want to sort the Income Bracket attribute items ascending by Sales volume . Size - select the metric, based on which the segments of the chart will be built.
  5. Specify a chart name and description, if desired.
  6. Select Save to make your changes.

To configure Heat Map chart settings

This chart type is based on one metric and two attributes and is supported by all data sources except Cloudera Search. It is supported by Solr v5.2 and higher.

  1. Navigate to the data source of your choice.
  2. Select the Charts tab.
  3. Select the Heat Map chart style.
  4. Configure the settings as follows:
  5. Group 1 - select the attribute.
    Group 1 Limit - specify the number of attribute items to be displayed on the chart.
    Group 1 Sort - select an attribute or a metric and the sorting type.
    Group 2 - select another attribute to be displayed on the X axis.
    Group 2 Limit - specify the number of attribute items to be displayed on the x axis of the chart.
    Group 2 Sort - select the attribute or a metric and the sorting type.
    Color metric - select a metric to be denoted by the segment color.
  6. Specify a chart name and description, if desired.
  7. Select Save to make your changes.

To configure KPI chart settings

This chart type is based on two metrics: Primary Metric and a Comparison Metric (by default is set to NONE). It allows you to visualize the results of comparing the metrics and show positive or negative dynamics, and is supported by all data sources.

  1. Navigate to the data source of your choice.
  2. Select the Charts tab.
  3. Select the KPI chart style.
  4. Configure the settings as follows:
    • Metric - select the metric to be visualized.
    • Comparison metric - select the metric that you want to compare with the primary metric (selected from the Metric list). Keep in mind that this option is not required, so you can select the NONE value if needed.
      1. Configure the color settings:
        • Up arrow color / Down arrow color
        • Data color
        • Label color
        • Background color
  5. Specify the chart name and description, if desired.
  6. Select Save to make your changes.

To configure Pie chart settings

This chart type is based on one metric and one attribute and is supported by all data sources.

  1. Navigate to the data source of your choice.
  2. Select the Charts tab.
  3. Select the Pie chart style.
  4. Configure the settings as follows:
    1. Group by - select an attribute.
      Group by Limit - specify the number of attribute items to be displayed on the chart.
      Group by Color Palette -  select the palette that you want to use.
      Display Legend - select this checkbox if you want the legend to be displayed in the chart.
      Group By Sort -  select a metric or the attribute by which the attribute items, you have selected to group by, will be sorted.
      Select the sorting order. Size - select a metric to de denoted by the segment size.
  5. Specify a chart name and description, if desired.
  6. Select Save to make your changes.

To configure Tree Map chart settings

This chart type is based on two metrics and one attribute and is supported by all data sources.

  1. Navigate to the data source of your choice.
  2. Select the Charts tab.
  3. Select the Tree Map chart style.
  4. Configure the settings as follows:
  5. Group By - select the attribute.
    Group By Limit - specify the number of attribute items to be displayed on the chart.
    Group By Sort - select an attribute or a metric and the sorting type.
    Size - select a metric to be denoted by the the rectangle size. Color - select a metric to be denoted by the the rectangle color.
  6. Specify a chart name and description, if desired.
  7. Select Save to make your changes.

To configure Word Cloud chart settings

This chart type is based on two metrics and one attribute and is supported by all data source.

  1. Navigate to the data source of your choice.
  2. Select the Charts tab.
  3. Select the Word Cloud chart style.
  4. Configure the settings as follows:
  5. Group By - select the attribute.
    Group By Limit - specify the number of attribute items to be displayed on the chart.
    Group By Sort - select an attribute or a metric and the sorting type.
    Size - select a metric to be denoted by the word size.
    Color - select a metric to be denoted by  the word color
  6. Specify the chart name and description, if desired.
  7. Select Save to make your changes.
