Configuring Bar Chart Styles

This chart group includes standard bar charts, histograms and multiple metric bar charts. These chart styles are supported by most all data sources. You can configure the defaults for all bar chart styles at the level of your data sources. Standard bar chart defaults are described in this topic. However, to configure histogram charts or multiple metric charts, see:

Bar charts include the following:

  • Plain: Based on 1 metric and 1 attribute
  • Clustered: Based on 1 metric and 2 attributes
  • Stacked: Based on 1 metric and 2 attributes)
  • 100% Stacked: Based on 1 metric and 2 attributes

To specify defaults for bar charts for a data source:

  1. Edit the appropriate data source configuration. See Editing a Data Source Configuration.

  2. Select the Charts tab in the data source configuration wizard.

  3. On the Standard subtab of the Charts tab, select Bars.

  4. Configure the settings as follows:

    Setting Description
    Group Select the attribute.
    Group Limit Specify the number of attribute items to display on the chart.
    Group Sort Select a metric or attribute by which the attribute items are sorted. You can also select the sorting order (ascending or descending).

    Sub-Group

    Select the attribute by which to group the other attributes.
    Sub-Group Limit Specify the number of attribute items to be displayed for each attribute that you have selected in the Sub-Group list. This option only appears if you have selected a subgroup.
    Sub-Group Color Palette Select the palette and enable the legend if needed. This option only appears if you have selected a subgroup.
    Sub-Group Sort Select a metric or the attribute by which the attribute items, you have selected in the Sub-Group list, will be sorted. Select the sorting order (ascending or descending). This option only appears if you have selected a subgroup.
    Metric Select the metric by which you want to analyze the selected attribute.
    Bar Color Select the metric that will be denoted by the bar color. Enable the legend if required and select the palette.
  5. Click Save.
