Working with Unified Time

When you work with your dashboard, you can apply the settings that you have configured on your time bar to multiple charts from the same data source. This enables you to view and playback the data on different charts for the same time period and filtered by the same time filter.

By default, the time bar settings are applied to each chart from the same data source that you add to your dashboard, provided that you have only one unified time bar configured.

You can use the unified time bar on the charts for which the time bar is enabled.

You can use different unified time bars for chart groups on your dashboard. In this case, new charts won't be assigned any of the existing unified time bars.

Using the Unified Time Bar for Specific Charts on the Dashboard

If you have several charts from the same data source or your charts contain cross-source links, you can use different unified time bar settings for different charts.

Suppose you want to apply the settings configured on the time bar to two charts on your dashboard: Audience and Sales/Countries . To do this, you would perform the following steps:

  1. Select a chart on the dashboard and configure the time bar settings: select the time attribute, adjust the required time period to be analyzed, etc.
  2. Click the time attribute on the left side of the time bar.
  1. In the Time Bar dialog, select the charts from your dashboard for which you want to use a unified time bar. The available charts are listed in the Applies to section. For example, select Audience and Sales/Countries .
The other charts - Books, Feedback, and Purchases will maintain their own individual time bars.
  2. Save the dashboard.

If you want the Audience or Sales/Countries charts to stop using the unified time bar and instead, use their own time, clear the corresponding checkboxes in the Books Sales list.

If your dashboard contains charts from different data sources, the Applies to section lists the charts separated out by data source.

The active section in the Applies to list (in which you can enable or disable the unified time bar) depends on the chart selected in the dashboard. That's why you can manage the charts in the Books Sales section, while charts from the Real Time Sales data source are disabled.

Breaking Unification

Applying a time-based filter to a chart using a unified time bar breaks that chart's unification. Specifically, this happens when a time-based filter is applied to both the chart's time bar as well as to the chart itself (using the Filter option from the radial menu) or if you choose to view Trend from the radial menu. If unification is going to be broken, you receive a message to confirm this action.

For example, suppose you need to filter the data in the Sales by Hour chart by the Inserted attribute for JAN 10 2017 6 AM on the Real Time Sales chart. When you click Apply to apply the filter, you will have to confirm breaking the unification. The Real Time Sales chart is updated and the time bar changes accordingly.
