Advanced Geospatial Data Visualization
Watch this video to learn about the challenges facing telecommunication companies that want to apply real-time data visualization to geospatial data.
The ability to visualize geospatial is especially important to telcos. Yet most data visualization solutions offer only two dimensional forms of display such as tables, line charts, and bar charts. They lack the ability to apply concepts of direction, sectors, layers, and cells in geospatial systems, which can provide very useful information for decision-making. Plus, telcos may have thousands of sites producing data for voice, SMS, and other data communications.
I am Jorge Alarcon, CEO of Aktiun, a technology services company. One of our areas of expertise is advanced data applications and visualizations. Today, I'd like to talk about geospatial, big data and real-time data visualization challenges that telecommunication companies face and also examples to solve these needs in a comprehensive way.
Geospatial Data Is Critical For Telecommunications Companies
Having geospatial representation of information is a fundamental component for telecommunication companies when it comes to data analytics. However, most data visualization solutions concentrate mainly on the traditional two dimensional form of display of information such as tables, line charts, bar charts.
At present, few big data analytics products provide powerful tools for representing telco data in geospatial systems. Almost none of them apply concepts like direction and omni-directional antennas, sectors, layers, cells in--with the correct representation in geospatial systems in order to provide useful information for decision making.
Telcos Have Thousands of Data Producing Sites
A common scenario for telcos is to have thousands of sites with antennas, all sites generating operational metrics constantly for voice, SMS and other data communications. Telcos looking to better manage their network operations need to visually understand the aggregate performance of these sites occurs multiple intervals during the day and occurs multiple days.
