Big Data Career Notes (Nov. 2016)

Mick Hollison

Cloudera has appointed Mick Hollison as the company’s new CMO. He recently served as the CMO of InsideSales.com, a position he held for over three years. A large portion of Hollison’s career was spent at Citrix Systems where he served in a number of different roles, most recently as the vice president of integrated marketing & strategy. He has over 25 years of enterprise and cloud software experience.

Justin Langseth

Justin Langseth, President and CEO at Zoomdata, has been recognized by Goldman Sachs as one of the 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs of 2016. He was honored at the Builders + Innovators Summit, an event that “brought together emerging and seasoned entrepreneurs from a diverse set of industries. The focus was on building great and enduring companies that reshape their industries and make the world better through innovation.” Prior to Zoomdata, Langseth served as the president and CEO at Augaroo. He currently holds 12 technology patents.

“It is very gratifying to build a team and company that has seen the success we’re experienced with Zoomdata and to have that hard work recognized by Goldman Sachs,” said Langseth. “They’re a terrific technology and investment partner and we look forward to the next steps in continuing to innovate on the industry’s fastest, most flexible and easy-to-use solution that developers can easily embed into their applications for the most advanced visual analytics.”

Judy Bruner

Rapid7 has appointed Judy Bruner to the company’s board of directors. She recently served as SanDisk’s CFO, a position she held for the past 12 years. Bruner has also spent time on a number of different boards throughout her career, including Applied Materials, Brocade, SanDisk, and the Computer History Museum, to name just a few.

“Judy is a seasoned business executive with proven experience managing global enterprises,” said Corey Thomas, chief executive officer and president of Rapid7. “She is a valuable addition to our Board of Directors bringing financial and operational expertise that will be beneficial to Rapid7 and our shareholders. We are excited to have her leadership as we continue to scale our business and execute the Company’s long-term growth strategy.”

Joe Morrissey and Kamal Brar

Joe Morrissey and Kamal Brar have joined Hortonworks as the vice president of international and the vice president and general manager of Asia Pacific, respectively.

Morrissey will be responsible for creating and implementing the sales and expansion strategy across the company’s international business. Prior to joining Hortonworks, Morrissey served as the VP and GM of EMEA for MongoDB. He’s also spent time at Oracle and MySQL.

“Enterprises across the globe are adopting modern data applications to underpin their digital transformation projects,” said Morrissey. “This represents a huge opportunity for connected data platforms, and I believe Hortonworks is ideally positioned to lead this rapidly-growing market category. I look forward to leading the international development of this exciting company.”

Brar will be responsible for overseeing growth opportunities across the Asia Pacific region. Over the course of his career, Brar has spent time at Talend, MongoDB, Oracle, MySQL, and HP.

“A growing number of organizations in the Asia Pacific region are looking for help in understanding how they can best uncover value from their data,” said Brar. “Asia Pacific is a key market for Hortonworks and I’m delighted and privileged to join the company to build out the next phase of growth, drive business transformation and build our customer base in the region.”
